This purpose of this nugget is to report on the second successful launch of the FOXSI sounding rocket payload. FOXSI was flown [FOXSI Sucess|once before] on November 2, 2012. This first flight produced the focused images of a microflare in hard x-rays.

A photograph of the launch of FOXSI-2 which took place on Dec. 11th, 2015.

Background

FOXSI is a sounding rocket payload whose goal is to develop and apply hard x-ray focusing optics combined with solid-state detectors.

Observations

A diagram showing the FOXSI pointing targets with the related light curve.

The Future?

Based on these successes, we are now considering how we would scale up the FOXSI sounding rocket to a satellite mission. Such a mission would allow us.

Conclusions

The FOXSI-2 Team standing proudly in front of the sounding rocket. From left to right: S. Krucker (PI), V. Shourt (Mech. Eng.), P. Turin (Lead Mech. Eng.), S. Christe (Co-I), L. Glesener (Project Lead), M. Buitrago-Casas (Grad. Student), S. Ishikawa (Co-I), N. Foster (Grad. Student)
