No discussion of Carrington's legacy would be complete without reference to the wonderful new book by Stuart Clark called The Sun Kings - The Unexpected Tragedy of Richard Carrington and the Tale of How Modern Astronomy Began (Princeton University Press, 2007). It starts out with a prologue on the Halloween flares of October/November 2003, with extensive discussion of SOHO observations - no mention of RHESSI - and includes the little known story of Carrington's tragic later life. I highly recommend it, especially if you get it for Christmas as I did.
